Our Custom Cut
Supply Only Glass Types

Custom cut clear float glass panes

Standard Clear Glass

Clear float glass is the base glass used in most general applications. It's ideal for picture frames, shelving, cabinet doors or repairs — and can be cut to size, polished, or processed to suit almost any project.

  • Great for DIY, repairs & custom shelving
  • Available in 3mm, 4mm, 6mm and other thicknesses
  • Can be polished, drilled or edge-worked to spec
Toughened supply only glass used for residential apartment block balustrades

Toughened Glass

Toughened (or tempered) glass is heat-treated for increased strength and safety. It's 4–5 times stronger than standard glass of the same thickness and designed to shatter into small, blunt fragments if broken — making it ideal for high-traffic or compliance-heavy areas.

  • Available in a range of thicknesses
  • Suitable for tabletops, doors, balustrades & splashbacks
  • Fully compliant with AS2208 safety standard
Curved laminated glass panels Tamara used for some residential balustrades

Laminated Glass

Laminated glass is made by bonding two layers of glass with a tough interlayer, helping it stay intact even when broken. This makes it a popular choice for shopfronts, doors, bathrooms and any area where safety, sound reduction, or security is important.

  • Stays intact when broken for added safety
  • Ideal for shopfronts, doors, bathrooms & partitions
  • Helps reduce noise and block UV exposure
Low iron glass used in a frameless glass balustrade

Low Iron Glass

Low iron glass is ultra-clear and free from the green tinge found in standard float glass. It's ideal for applications where true colour and sharp detail matter — offering maximum clarity for premium finishes.

  • Perfect for splashbacks, tabletops & frameless balustrades
  • Delivers true colour with no green distortion
  • Ideal for high-end architectural or interior design work
Frosted glass panels used privacy in office glass doors

Frosted & Patterned Glass

Whether you're screening a bathroom, dividing an office, or softening harsh sunlight, this glass combines function with decorative appeal — and many options can be toughened for safety.

  • Ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, offices & shopfronts
  • Available in a wide range of patterns & opacities
  • Can be toughened for use as A-Grade safety glass

  • Helps prevent forced entry or damage
  • Options include StormGuard & observation mirror

Custom Cut Glass Buyers Guide

Need glass cut to size? Let's clear up common questions, and help you choose the right type of glass for your project — whether it's for your home, trade, or DIY use.

Glass Types & Applications

We offer a wide range of glass types for supply-only use — including toughened, laminated, low iron, frosted, patterned, and mirrored glass. Each type is suited to different settings based on safety, clarity, insulation or style.

Whether you're ordering a shelf, splashback, tabletop or shower screen panel, we'll help match the right glass to your application — including guidance on thickness, edge finishes and safety requirements.

If you're unsure what type of glass you need, just contact our team. We'll talk you through the options and help you make the right choice for both looks and performance.

The Difference Between Toughened & Laminated Glass

Toughened glass is heat-treated for strength and shatters into small, blunt fragments if broken. Laminated glass is made by bonding two sheets together with an interlayer — so if it breaks, the panel stays intact.

Toughened is ideal for splashbacks, shelves, and table tops. Laminated is best where ongoing containment is needed — like balustrades, overhead glass, or high-security applications.

Can I Order Glass Without Installation - Yes!

Yes — this entire service is supply only. You can order custom cut glass to your exact specifications and either pick it up from our Gladesville facility or arrange delivery.

This service is perfect for cabinetmakers, shopfitters, renovators and DIYers who already have a plan or installer and simply need high-quality, cut-to-size glass fast.

What Should I Know Before Ordering?

The more accurate your measurements, the better. We recommend measuring the space precisely and considering any clearance required for fitting. Let us know if the panel will be exposed to heat or moisture, as that may affect the glass type.

If you're unsure how to measure or specify your job, give us a call. We can help you avoid common mistakes and ensure your order is processed correctly the first time.

Turnaround Times & Quality Guarantee

Further Info:

  • All glass is processed in-house at our Gladesville facility, which allows us to control quality and reduce lead times. Standard turnaround is fast — and urgent jobs can often be accommodated.

  • If your project requires something more complex — like holes, bevelling or lamination — our team will give you a clear scope of works and expected time frame up front.
  • At Palmers Glass, we're here to make the supply process simple, flexible, and dependable — whether you're ordering one panel or twenty.
