Glass Range – Fire Resistant Glass

In the Australian climate, fire is an ever present danger for many residents and commercial buildings. We offer fire resistant glass solutions for a wide variety of purposes both domestic and commercial.

When assessing fire resistant glass two main factors are taken into consideration – Integrity and Insulation.

Integrity refers to the ability of the glass to hold back flames and the gasses produced. We have glass available with Integrity ratings from 30min to 120min.

Insulation

Insulation refers to the ability of the glass to limit heat transfer across the glass from the rising temperatures prevalent during a fire. We have glass available with Insulation ratings from 11min to 120min.

Pyroshield

Our entry level fire resistant glass comes in the form of Pyroshield.

Pyroshield is a 6mm thick glass that will fit in with most domestic situations. While it doesn’t have an Insulation rating it is rated for Integrity to 60min over a maximum size of 1600 x 1400mm.

A clear glass that remains transparent in the event of fire, Pyroshield has a chemically treated steel wire mesh embedded into its centre. Once exposed to extreme heat from a fire, the glass fractures but remains held together by the wire mesh. Pyroshield can be used internally or externally and is recognized and accepted by fire and building authorities around the world.

Pyrodur

Pyrodur is a clear 13mm thick glass that is ideal for boundary window applications. Rated to 11min for Insulation and 60min for Integrity over a maximum size of 2905 x 1430mm, Pyrodur meets the A-Grade safety glass standard AS/NZS 2208. When exposed to fire the interlayer turns opaque offering partial resistance to thermal radiation.

Pyrostop

Pyrostop is the high end of fire resistant glass solutions. Available in 18 to 56mm thick it ranges in Insulation ratings from 30 to 120min and for Integrity 60 to 120min. Used in a wide variety of commercial applications Pyrostop can be seen in interior partition walls, shop fronts, fire doors and fixed glazing both internally and externally.

Note: All components in the installation of fire resistant glass must meet a system wide level of competency. This means that all framing, fixtures etc for the glass and surrounding must be viewed as a total system and assessed for fire resistance accordingly.
